Paula Ashbaugh, RYT 500

I first began doing yoga 20 years ago when my mom gave me a book in high school called “28 days to Yoga”. She thought it would help me focus on studying, as I was kind of a wound up athlete spaz. I found that when I would just get into my body and breath, something happened to my mind, and I would feel calm with more focus. It was so cool. So of course, I threw the book on the shelf and forgot about it. Years later, in 2001 I did a yoga workshop, and knew I had to explore deeper, so completed my RYT-500 in California, where I grew up. As I dove in deeper and deeper, I began to study the yoga sutras, the 8 limbs of yoga, and recognized that if I applied these teachings to my life, I was much more balanced with the ability to stay present. This awareness has helped me in my profession as a physical therapist and athletic trainer, with mountain biking, skiing, surfing, and most importantly, with my relationships to people. Basically…it has changed who I am. Over the years I have had the honor to study with David Whyte, David Swenson, Brian Kest, Erich Schiffmann, Sarah Powers, Shiva Rea, and my Ashtanga mentor Tim Miller. I teach Yin, Restorative, Align and Flow, Hatha, Vinyasa and am a practicing Ashtangi. During class, I try to be a medium for one to go inward consciously, connect with themselves by being present and meld the body and mind. ☺
